16 Arts Groups Have Shot at State Grants

Sixteen Orange County arts groups are being recommended by state advisory panels to receive 1988-89 organizational grants from the California Arts Council.

The full council will meet Aug. 25 and 26 to make final decisions on the grant applications.

A story in Tuesday’s Calendar about applicants for 1988-89 grants from the Artistic and Administrative Development Program of the California Arts Council’s Organizational Grant Program omitted the following Orange County groups:
--The Bowers Museum has applied for $50,000.
--The Laguna Art Museum has applied for $30,000 for administrative support.
--Ballet Pacifica wants $18,500 for administrative development.
--The Severin Wunderman Museum wants $17,888 for outreach and other programming support.
--The St. Joseph Ballet/Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, wants $17,200 for outreach and artistic development.
--The Garden Grove Symphony wants $15,720 for artistic and program development.
--The Relampago del Cielo dance troupe wants $15,000 for adminstrative development.
--The Dunaj International Dance Ensemble wants $3,000 for administrative development.
The story incorrectly said that listed groups had been recommended to receive grants. In fact, recommendations will not be completed until July.

Applicants (in order of amount being sought) include:

--South Coast Repertory Theatre applied for $140,000 for general operations and outreach programs.

--Opera Pacific applied for $125,000 for outreach programs.

--Pacific Symphony applied for $114,196 for administrative support and outreach programs.

--Newport Harbor Art Museum applied for $108,650 for outreach programs.

--Laguna Playhouse applied for $50,000 to assist with expansion of the theater and for administrative support.

--Master Chorale of Orange County applied for $40,000 for administrative support.

--Grove Theatre Company applied for $30,000 for actors’ stipends.

--Orange County Philharmonic Society applied for $30,000 to help underwrite educational activities.

--Pacific Chorale applied for $30,000 for artistic and administrative support.

--South Coast Symphony applied for $25,000 for administrative restructuring.

--Orange County Black Actors Theatre applied for $16,350 for artists’ fees.

--Historical & Cultural Foundation of Orange County applied for $13,000 for administrative support.

--Orange Coast College Performing Arts Center applied for $12,500 to assist in marketing.

--Stop-Gap Theatre applied for $9,375 for the drama-therapy program.

--Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society applied for $8,500 for a young artists’ series.

--Laguna Poets applied for $2,500 for poets’ fees.
