Proposition 68: Limit on Funds

Share

The article “Insurance Firms’ Gifts to Governor, Legislators Told” (Part I, May 17) noting the insurance industry’s contributions to the campaigns of Gov. George Deukmejian (to the tune of $460,645 in three years) and hefty sums to state Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Van Nuys) and Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) and others, shows that these monies are in fact premiums to insure that the industry is dealt with favorably by our Legislature and governor.

Coupled with the huge contributions by the trial lawyers, as Consumers Union has pointed out, the Legislature is practically paralyzed as far as meaningful legislation. That is why we have a laundry list of propositions at every election.

Boy, do we need Proposition 68!
