Hughes Aircraft Co. agreed to pay a $47,500 civil penalty for allegedly violating U.S. anti-boycott laws by communicating with a Syrian-based organization regarding a boycott of Israel. The Commerce Department said Los Angeles-based Hughes allegedly sent letters in April and May, 1983, to the Central Office for the Boycott of Israel. The letters contained information about Hughes’ and other companies’ business relationships with Israel and with persons blacklisted by Arab League countries. Hughes neither admitted nor denied guilt.
