A sideswiped sports car jumped a curb Thursday and ran down a woman and her children as they walked along a South Los Angeles sidewalk on their way to school, police said.

A 5-year-old girl was killed in the 7:45 a.m. accident. Her mother and two brothers were injured, the mother critically.

Maria Delatorre, 33, and the six children she was escorting to school tried to flee when the Datsun 280Z suffered a slight collision with a truck, jumped the curb and skidded toward them after bouncing off a building on South Main Street, Detective Robert Jimenez said.
