NCAA Men’s Tennis : UCLA Pair, Weiss Reach Semifinals

Pepperdine’s Robby Weiss and UCLA’s Buff Farrow and Brian Garrow each won two matches Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. individual men’s tennis championships at the University of Georgia.

Fifth-seeded Farrow defeated John Carras of USC, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Ed Nagel of Michigan, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, to advance to today’s match against his teammate. Nagel had defeated No. 3 Andrew Sznajder of Pepperdine, 7-6, 0-6, 6-4, in the round of 16.

Garrow defeated Donnie Leaycraft of Louisiana State, 6-1, 6-1, before defeating Byron Talbot of Tennessee, 7-5, 6-2.

Top-seeded Weiss, a senior, will play freshman Al Parker of Georgia today.

Weiss defeated Woody Hunt of California, 7-5, 7-5, in the round of 16 before beating Bryan Shelton of Georgia Tech, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
