NCAA Men’s Tennis : Weiss Coasts; Garrow Outlasts Farrow in All-UCLA Semifinal

Brian Garrow of UCLA upset teammate Buff Farrow Friday to advance to today’s final of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. individual men’s tennis championships against Robby Weiss of Pepperdine.

Garrow beat fifth-seeded Farrow, 7-6, 6-4, in a semifinal on the University of Georgia courts. Weiss, seeded No. 1, defeated freshman Al Parker of Georgia, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Farrow and Robert Bierens defeated the top-seeded team of Eric Amend and Scott Melville of USC, 6-3, 6-4, in a semifinal and will meet UCLA teammates Patrick Galbraith and Garrow in today’s final.

Galbraith and Garrow defeated Christian Dallwitz and Mark Greenan of Wake Forest in the other semifinal, 6-1, 6-4.

In the quarterfinals, Dallwitz and Greenan defeated Ray Kurey and Joby Foley of West Virginia, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2; Amend and Melville beat Bret Garnett and Ashley Rhoney of Southwest Louisiana, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2; Farrow and Bierens defeated Jamie Booras and Dave Randall of Mississippi, 6-4, 7-6, and Galbraith and Garrow defeated Byron Black and John Carras of USC, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
