Ivan Lendl, matching cool precision to John McEnroe’s display of fiery brilliance, won their rain-delayed fourth-round French Open match 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 today.

Ninth-seeded Andre Agassi, the lone American left among the men, beat Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in a quarterfinal matching two 18-year-old players. The 16th-seeded McEnroe served vigorously and rushed the net at every chance, but Lendl moved him back with pinpoint lobs or passing shots, landing them within inches of the lines on the slow clay surface.
