Nunn Runs His Record to 30-0 With Second-Round Knockout of Daniels
For Ron Daniels, it was the chance of a lifetime.
For Michael Nunn, it was no time to take chances.
So Nunn, facing a title shot against International Boxing Federation middleweight champion Frank Tate July 28 at Caesars Palace, quickly disposed of Daniels Tuesday night before a sellout crowd of 960 at the Reseda Country Club.
Nunn (30-0, 20 knockouts) put Daniels (11-7) down with a barrage of punches in the second round of their scheduled 10-round main event. Before referee John Thomas could finish the count, Daniels’ manager, Al Jackson, stepped in to stop the bout at the 2:51 mark of the round.
Nunn, who lives in North Hollywood, weighed 160 1/2 for the bout. Daniels, from Paso Robles, weighed 161.
In the semimain, Hugo Anguiano (12-10-1, seven knockouts) of Los Angeles won the state featherweight title with a unanimous 12-round decision over Abe Gomez (10-2) of Pacoima.
The only knockdown of the fight came in the second round when Anguiano, 126, put down Gomez, 125, with a left hook.
