Microsemi Corp., a Santa Ana semiconductor products company, said it has acquired Universal Microtechnologies, a Cambridge, Mass., manufacturer of electronic circuit boards for a price of less than $1 million. Universal Microtechnologies is the 15th company that Microsemi has acquired in the past two years in deals ranging in price from less than $1 million to $9 million, said David R. Sonksen, vice president of finance. Philip Frey Jr., Microsemi’s chairman, said the Universal acquisition is part of the company’s strategy to establish regional centers to provide design, manufacturing and testing of advanced circuit boards. Founded in 1986, Universal employs about 20 people in Massachusetts. It will become part of Microsemi’s Advanced- Manufacturing Technologies Group.
