** “The Lover’s Cell”

Modern Visual Communications. $29.95.

Made at CalArts in 1984 and ‘85, and one of five recent releases by a local company specializing in video art, this 26-minute compendium of pieces by David Stout incorporates dancers in its slickly sensuous wash of images and sound. The sense of water flowing over skin dominates “Anemone,” and elsewhere Stout makes the nude human form central to his complex overlays of video effects. But his pieces go nowhere and their moment-to-moment interest is small. Indeed, through his lush, generalized, repetitive processes, Stout has created the video equivalent of the Lava Lite. The MVC series is sold at Brentano’s in Century City.
