McCaw Cellular Acquires Interest in N.Y. Company

McCaw Cellular Communications of Kirkland, Wash., has acquired 1.3 million shares, or 5.72%, of Cellular Communications Inc. for about $33 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

McCaw, which has held talks with representatives of Cellular, said it may increase its investment in the New York firm, but has no immediate plans to take over the company.

The firm is 40% owned by brothers Craig, John, Keith and Bruce R. McCaw, all of whom are directors of the company.
