‘Where’s the War Against the Legal Killer, Alcohol?’

Paterson’s column is a welcome addition to The Times coverage of the drug war. Her emphasis on alcohol as an addictive drug (legal or not) draws my enthusiastic endorsement.

Unfortunately, in her concluding paragraph she writes about “ . . . drug abuse and alcoholism. . . .” I would have hoped that she would have used the phrase “drug abuse including alcoholism”!

As an added note, there are currently two bills (S. 2047 and H.R. 4441) pending in Congress which are designed to require warning labels on alcoholic beverages. Currently, they are not co-sponsored by either of our California senators. Only three California representatives are co-sponsors.
