Historian and journalist Alfredo Seiferheld, correspondent for the Associated Press in Asuncion since 1982, died Friday of cancer, his family said. He was 37.

Seiferheld also worked for Time magazine and was a journalist with the Asuncion newspaper ABC Color before it was closed in 1984 by the government of President Gen. Alfredo Stroessner for publishing allegedly subversive articles.

A graduate in history from the University of Sorbonne in Paris, Seiferheld wrote several books, including “The Asylum of Peron,” “The Fall of Federico Chavez,” “Jews in Paraguay” and “Political-Military Conversations.”
