We Should Be Giving the Highest Pay to Nurses, Teachers and Others Who Really Help Society

In “Who Are The Most Overpaid People in America?,” Ravi Batra, an economist and author, stated, “If there is a depression in the near future,” as he predicts in his book, “the blame will have to fall on the greed and conceit of the rich people in America.”

According to my dictionary, “conceit” is “an excessively high opinion of oneself” and “greed” is “an excessive desire for wealth.” Does Batra actually believe that the economy would benefit if Lee A. Iacocca, Donald Trump and Dave Winfield had low opinions of themselves and an excessive desire for poverty?

In the words of Ayn Rand, “Wealth is the product of man’s capacity to think. Then is money made by the man who invents a motor at the expense of those who did not invent it? Is money made by the intelligent at the expense of the fools? By the able at the expense of the incompetent? By the ambitious at the expense of the lazy? Money is made by the effort of every honest man, each to the extent of his ability.”

In other words, if Batra is earning a dime as an economist, he is clearly the most overpaid person in America.
