The Norwegian Aid Committee appealed Saturday for the release of a Belgian doctor believed kidnaped by a Palestinian faction in southern Lebanon, and warned that the humanitarian group may call off its activities in Lebanon.

“Please release Dr. Jan Cools,” said a statement signed by Oevind Sagedal, head of the Norwegian group. “Imagine the despair and the worries of the doctor himself, his parents in Belgium and all his friends.”

Cools, 32, who served with the Norwegian Aid Committee in southern Lebanon, was last seen May 21 after he left his apartment in the Palestinian refugee camp of Rashidiyeh.
