Surprise Guests

A while ago the Travel Section published a letter about the advantages of renting an apartment in New York City over staying in a hotel and it said that the rates charged for apartments tended to be bargains when compared to what one has to pay for a hotel suite. Until recently I was sometimes renting my New York apartment to short-term visitors. The last time I did this was through an agency. The “one guest” it sent me turned out to be three guests, two of which were criminal fugitives wanted by the Swedish police. It may be interesting for tourists to rent apartments, but it certainly has its disadvantages for the people who rent out their apartments.
