Edward Matthews of New York sold for $14 million two buildings at 4001 MacArthur Blvd. in Newport Beach housing the Far West Savings & Loan corporate headquarters. The buyer was Inawell Corp., described by Heritage Commercial Brokerage in Irvine, Matthews’ broker, as wholly owned by a Japanese family.

And in another large purchase, Hopkins Development of Newport Beach bought the Mart of Montebello, a 213,000-square-foot community shopping center on 18 acres in Montebello for $12 million. Hopkins said it would refurbish the 30-year-old center, part of the Montebello redevelopment area. Sierra Capital Trust of San Francisco was the seller.
