A teacher jailed for defying a court order to stay away from his 17-year-old bride walked out of prison and into the arms of his pregnant, underage wife, who was 11 when they met in his sixth-grade math class.

“This whole thing was ridiculous,” Frederick Hone, 46, said Tuesday after appearing at Family Court to be formally released from custody.

“All the state had to do was get its nose out of our business and let us go on with our lives,” he said. “We have a good future, and if they didn’t like our age difference, well that’s tough.”

Hone was suspended from his teaching job pending a hearing later this month and served 90 days for violating a restraining order to stay away from a minor, his wife, Kimberly.

Kimberly’s parents obtained the order, saying Hone had their daughter under “a spell.”

“It is my life, and I have to live it,” Kimberly said. Hone vowed to fight to keep his teaching job. “I married a former student. So what? I am one of the best math teachers in the system,” he said.

Kimberly, who is expected to give birth in October, met Hone while in his sixth-grade math class in North Kingstown. Hone was married at the time, and Kimberly was 11. No sexual relations took place until after Kimberly was 17, the couple said.
