Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan, previously voted the NBA’s most valuable player and defensive player of the year, was the only unanimous choice on the all-league team. Boston forward Larry Bird, a three-time MVP, missed by one vote of being a unanimous choice.
Jordan, the league leader in scoring and steals, was named to the first team on all 80 ballots for a total of 160 points in voting by a nationwide panel of sportswriters and broadcasters--three from each of the league’s 23 cities and 11 members of the national media.
Joining Jordan and Bird on the first team were forward Charles Barkley of Philadelphia, center Akeem Olajuwon of Houston and guard Magic Johnson of the Lakers.
