Leftist Peruvian guerrillas fired at least two mortar rounds at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Lima, damaging the roof with one blast but causing no injuries, officials said. Ambassador Alexander Watson, his wife and infant daughter were in the two-story colonial residence, an embassy spokesman said. The assailants, believed to be members of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, escaped, leaving behind leaflets commemorating the death of a pro-Cuba guerrilla leader in 1965.
