More than 290 participants are signed up for the High Priority Celebrity Golf Classic, which begins Sunday with a cocktail party and dinner at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel. The tournament, which has attracted about 90 golfers, takes place Monday at the Links at Monarch Beach.

The tournament is sponsored by High Priority--the breast cancer information network of the AMC Cancer Research Center based in Denver. It is the second annual golf classic organized by the group to raise money for cancer research. Last year, $20,000 was raised. This year, the group expects to earn $50,000, according to Pepper Stone, executive director of the county board organizing High Priority.

Among the celebrities pledged to participate in either the tournament or the hotel festivities are Chris and Gina Lemmon (son and daughter-in-law of actor Jack Lemmon); John Ashton (co-star of the movie “Beverly Hills Cop”); Pat Peterson (one of the stars of TV’s “Knott’s Landing”), and broadcaster O.J. Simpson.
