How will Warren Beatty portray Chicago’s--and the comics’--toughest cop . . . “Dick Tracy”?

A sneak peak at Bo Goldman’s script reveals that it’s a period piece set in Chicago in the fall of 1938. Tracy flies planes, loves jazz and is a fearless crime fighter. Aficionados of the old strip will recognize some old foes, including B-B Eyes and Flat Top. But the worst villains now: Nazi spies.

The agents are trying to infiltrate the Manhattan Project (development of the atom bomb) and kidnap J. Robert Oppenheimer. Tracy’s about to foil the bad guys on Halloween, 1938 when . . . you’ll have to see the movie (or know your radio history) to find out.

“Tracy,” which Beatty also directs, goes before the cameras in September for Fox.
