Hawke Firmly Controls Australian Labor Party

CANBERRA, Australia —
Prime Minister Bob Hawke and his right-wing supporters have emerged firmly in control of the Australian Labor Party after a four-day conference.
Hawke, in power for the last five years, triumphed on all contentious issues, including attempts by the left to halt uranium sales to France.
