General Motors’ Cadillac division has decided to halt production of the slow-selling Allante luxury car for the 1988 model year. A spokesman said production of the car, which sells for $56,533, will end today. He said production will resume in late August with cars built for the 1989 model year. The car bodies are crafted in Turin, Italy, by Pininfarina, and the cars are assembled at GM’s Hamtramck, Mich., assembly plant. About 70 workers are affected by the 2 1/2-month shutdown.
