Datametrics Shows Nearly Tripled Profit in Quarter

Datametrics said its fiscal second-quarter profit nearly tripled from a year earlier on a 26% increase in revenue.

The Chatsworth company, which makes printers and other computer-related products for mostly military applications, said net income in the quarter that ended April 30 jumped to $648,141, or 16 cents a share, from $242,493, or 2 cents a share, a year earlier. The results included tax-related gains of $244,500 in the latest quarter.

Datametrics’ order backlog as of April 30 totaled $36 million, up 40% from a year earlier.

For the first half of its fiscal year, Datametrics’ earnings doubled to $1.15 million, or 28 cents a share, from $521,273, or 5 cents a share, a year earlier. Six-month revenue climbed 30% to $13.9 million from $10.7 million.

Separately, the company said it won a $1.3 million contract to provide 62 high-speed printers to the U.S. Naval Electronics System Engineering Center in San Diego. Deliveries of the machines are expected to begin in November.
