1987 U.S. Lightning Toll Is 86, Highest in Decade

WASHINGTON —
Lightning killed 86 Americans last year, the highest death toll in the decade, the government reported Monday. The 365 lightning-related injuries reported nationwide were nearly 50% more than the long-term average, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
