USC’s Jim Campanis signed a baseball contract with the Seattle Mariners. Campanis, a junior catcher who led the 1988 Trojan team with a .392 batting average, 23 home runs and 92 runs batted, was chosen by the Mariners in the third round of the recent amateur draft.

Campanis, the grandson of former Dodger executive Al Campanis, is at the U.S. Olympic baseball camp in Millington, Tenn. If he does not make the Olympic team, he will report to the Mariners’ Class-A team in San Bernardino.
