American endurance runner Mary Margaret Goodwin reported from Nepal that she has completed a 1,300-mile run through the Nepal-Himalayan region, which she believes makes her the first solitary runner to do so. The Ft. Lewis, Wash., resident--whose only companion has been a 2-year-old German shorthair pointer--said she had to cope with an elephant charge and 110-degree plus heat. “I have done the Nepal-Himalaya run in one day less than three months. Now I am crossing to India, but that is a big problem. At the moment the border is closed,” the 50-year-old runner told the Associated Press by phone from Mahendranagar, about 330 miles west-northwest of Katmandu.
