Ariane 4’s 1st Flight a Success

KOUROU, French Guiana —
In a triumphant maiden voyage, a French-built Ariane 4 rocket, Europe’s first heavy-lift space booster, successfully ferried three satellites into orbit today, including an American communications station, as it left the United States even further behind in space technology.
