Norwalk : Campus Smoking Ban Set

Share

Smoking will be banned from most areas on the Cerritos College campus beginning with the start of the fall semester. The Board of Trustees recently approved the new smoking regulations, which will become effective Aug. 22.

Smoking will be prohibited in all buildings on the Norwalk-based 18,000-student campus, with some exceptions. The exceptions are a designated area of the staff dining room, maintenance shops and in one-to-four-person offices where all the employees agree to allow smoking.

The regulations were developed by a campus-wide committee, which included smokers, nonsmokers, students and faculty members, said Mark Wallace, public information officer. No-smoking signs will be posted soon and information about the restrictions will be printed in campus publications, Wallace said.

The regulations, which were adopted for one year, will be reviewed at the end of the academic year next May.
