La Mirada : Renewal Zone Expanded

Share

The City Council has voted to add 456 acres to La Mirada’s redevelopment zone, a move that will place virtually all of the city’s industrial land in redevelopment areas.

Most of the addition, 412 acres, is composed of industrial tracts near the Santa Ana Freeway in the city’s southwest corner. The remaining 44 acres are commercial parcels scattered around the city.

City Manager Gary Sloan said only one person objected to the expansion at a Tuesday public hearing, and the council gave preliminary approval to the addition in a 4-0 vote. Mayor Wayne Rew was absent.

In other action, the council approved a 5% annual raise for all full-time city employees. Together with salary increases for part-time employees and associated fringe benefits, the raise will cost the city about $170,000 a year, Sloan said. He added that the increases reflect the council’s desire to maintain a salary scale slightly above average for area municipalities.
