OBITUARIES : Robert Wojciak; USC Music Professor

Robert Wojciak, chairman of the USC wind and percussion department and founder of the USC Contemporary Music Ensemble, died Sunday at his La Canada home.

He was 52 and died of an apparent heart attack after suffering a first attack last year.

Wojciak came to USC in 1963 as a doctoral student after earning degrees from the University of Michigan. He obtained his doctorate, became director of bands at the University of Cincinnati and returned to USC where he was chosen wind and percussion chairman in 1976.

He also was a conductor at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts and had been clarinet soloist with the U.S. Air Force Band and Orchestra in Washington.

In 1981 he was the recipient of the USC Ramo Music Faculty Award.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his name are asked to a scholarship fund at the university. Checks can be mailed to MUS 308, USC School of Music, Los Angeles 90089.
