Sam Clayberger shows a suite of small scale acrylic paintings called “Landscapes of England.” Though titles refer to real places--”Beeches in Hampshire,” “Night in Dorset”--we’d be hard pressed to come upon scenes like these. Trees look like royal blue cotton balls casting spooky, near-black shadows, grass is a nervous chartreuse film blanketing the land, skies run from salmon pink to purple. Though “Park in Hamstead” describes a dreamy little road traversing a tree-lined knoll bathed in lilac haze, the real subject seems to be the artist’s intimate, visionary connection with the land. (Heritage Gallery, 718 N. La Cienega Blvd., to July 2.)
