Brian Baronet died after being in a coma for three days after he was knocked out by an American fighter. Baronet had been declared brain-dead Thursday, but his family refused to let doctors switch off a life-support system. Doctors at St. Augustine’s Hospital in Durban, South Africa, said his heart stopped beating Friday. He was 27.
Baronet, a junior welterweight once ranked as a contender by the World Boxing Assn., suffered extensive brain damage when Kenny Vice knocked him out in the last round of a 10-round fight Tuesday night.
