Two South Africans were charged in a court in neighboring Botswana with a border incursion that left three policemen wounded. Johannes Basson, 25, identified by Botswanan police as a South African army corporal, and Theodore Hermansen, 30, said to be a South African reservist, were accused of endangering Botswana’s security, causing bodily harm and attempting to kill. South Africa’s military has not confirmed or denied that the two are security force members, but it said an army unit crossed into Botswana on an intelligence mission against the banned African National Congress. Botswana says five other commandos escaped back to South Africa.
