India filed a petition to bring contempt-of-court charges against Union Carbide Corp. officials because the U.S. chemical giant demanded that a judge disqualify himself in the Bhopal gas leak case. Judge M. W. Deo last week rejected an application by Union Carbide that he withdraw from the case dealing with compensation claims for victims of the world’s worst industrial disaster.
