Local News in Brief : Hefty School Budget Cuts

Share

The Inglewood school board today will hold its second special board meeting of the week for another round of budget-cutting after making about $2 million in trims Wednesday.

Wednesday’s cuts scaled back 12-month, 11-month and 10-month positions by one month each, eliminated several managerial, clerical and custodial employees and froze some vacant positions, including the post of superintendent, which Supt. Rex Fortune is vacating at the end of the month. Also frozen was the post of assistant superintendent for business services.

With $387,430 in cuts still needed, board members must consider proposals that include elimination of high school counselors and several vice principals. Angry administrators and other employees are saying the budget measures will create chaos if implemented.
