Streaking Dodgers Shake Up Pacific Coast With a Sweep

Share

Loren Jundy continued his hot pitching and his teammates supported him with torrid hitting as the Valley Dodgers swept a Golden State League doubleheader from the Pacific Coast Earthquake, 11-1 and 10-0, Saturday at Cal State Northridge.

The defending league champion Dodgers (15-4, 10-0 in league play), ranked 11th nationally among semipro teams in the National Baseball Congress poll, recorded their 12th and 13th consecutive victories.

Both games were called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

First baseman Bill Bluhm broke open a 2-1 game in the opener with a fifth-inning grand slam off losing pitcher John Rincon (2-1).

Bluhm’s blast keyed a seven-run fifth and made things easy for Jundy, who gave up two hits, struck out six batters and walked two.

The Dodgers, who had 22 hits on the day, scored two runs in the sixth for their final margin.

Jundy (3-0) has allowed two earned runs in 18 innings this season.

The Dodgers held a 1-0 lead in the second game before exploding for nine runs in the sixth.

Mark Geiseke and Bluhm hit back-to-back home runs to lead the rally. It was Geiseke’s second home run and Bluhm’s third.

Glen Stevenson was 3 for 3 and drove in a run in the first game and was 1 for 1 with three RBIs in the second.

Teammates Jeff Light (two RBIs), formerly of Montclair Prep, and Chae-Ho Chong, currently of CSUN, each had three hits in the second game.
