Western Tele-Communications Inc. has agreed to buy Taft Cable Partners, which owns 17 cable television systems in Michigan and New England, for about $420 million. The acquisition would raise Englewood, Colo.-based Western Tele-Communications’ subscriber count by 210,000 to a total of 560,000 if it is approved by various regulatory agencies. The company also announced a vote by shareholders to change the name of Taft Cable to WestMarc Communications Inc.
