Haiti’s new military rulers have freed seven aides and supporters of deposed President Leslie F. Manigat, and four more will be released soon, the commander of Port-au-Prince’s Ft. Dimanche prison said. Roger Savain, 65, Manigat’s information minister, was released along with his son, Roger Jr., and former Information Ministry official Jean Narces Lescouflair, said Maj. Isidore Pognon. Four other Manigat aides, including former Social Affairs Minister Harry Carrenard, 57, were also freed. Meanwhile, the Organization of American States expressed hope that Haiti will return to democracy. It also approved a resolution calling for an examination of the human rights situation in Haiti.
