Rising floodwaters along the Paraguay River in northern Argentina forced about 7,000 people to flee their homes, civil defense officials said Wednesday.

Temporary shelters have been set up in hospitals, schools and churches in this provincial capital 680 miles north of Buenos Aires, as well as in the north-central border city of Clorinda, across the river from Asuncion, Paraguay.

Forecasters predicted more rain, while authorities say the Paraguay River is expected to rise for at least another week.
