Lynn Adams of Costa Mesa, a 16-time national racquetball champion, will be one of the featured players in the 15th Scor National Championships, which begin Saturday at Orange Coast College.

Adams also will team with Marcy Drexler of Hollywood, the third-ranked player on the pro tour, in the women’s open pro doubles division, which will be a round-robin competition.

The Scor National Championships, the longest-running racquetball tournament, will have 4 open professional and 16 amateur divisions. The tournament begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and runs through Monday.

The women’s open pro doubles final will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by the women’s open pro singles final at noon, the men’s open pro doubles final at 1:30 p.m. and the men’s open pro singles final at 3.

Brian Hawkins of Huntington Beach, an eight-time national champion, is seeded No. 1 in the men’s open pro division. Kevin Booth of Newport Beach is No. 2, Dan Southern of Huntington Beach, a three-time national champion, is No. 3 and Greg McDonald of Gainesville is No. 4.

In the men’s pro open doubles, Jaime Barker of Westminster and Bill Chadwick of Norco are the top-seeded team.

Bobby Cody, the 17-year-old son of former speedway motorcycle star Bill Cody, will make his second-division debut at 8 tonight when racing resumes at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Two weeks ago, Cody raced at Costa Mesa for the first time and won the third-division main event twice, prompting promoter Harry Oxley to move Cody, a Dana Hills High School student, up to the next class of racing.

Two years ago, Cody broke his thighbone while racing in a junior speedway race in San Bernardino and missed the season. He began racing mountain bikes during his recovery period and then decided to return to speedway this season.

“He just goes too fast for the lower divisions,” said Oxley, who has assigned Cody a starting position from the 10-yard line for tonight’s race. “But I worry that his experience doesn’t match his natural ability.”

U.S. national champion Brad Oxley of San Clemente continues to top the point standings at the four Southern California tracks, although he has not won a main event at Costa Mesa. Bobby Schwartz has won eight scratch main events in 13 weeks.

The Los Alamitos Recreation Department is accepting sign-ups for a three-on-three men’s basketball league. The league will play Mondays from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Oak Academy.
