Pacific Symphony’s Travail

Share

Members of the board and staff of the Pacific Symphony Assn. have felt dealt with severely in your coverage of our organization’s growth. For 10 years the Pacific Symphony Orchestra has been Orange County’s premier performing musical institution. Our founder emeritus and current music director, Keith Clark, is one of the entrepreneurial leaders of Orange County. His vision and talents have contributed to the development of a renaissance in the arts in Orange County.

Today our association and its objectives are growing with the county. We maintain a professional major symphony orchestra (that) performs in the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Through the support of the people of Orange County, our donor base has doubled in the last year, and we have become the largest regional orchestra in the United States.

Our objectives are to serve the musical needs of the community, set a standard of excellence in the community, offer a diversified musical experience that reaches all the people of Orange County and provide a rich musical experience including symphonic, chamber and pops music, music education for all age groups and musical support for other cultural organizations in Orange County.

All of us who care for the orchestra look forward to the continued growth of all the arts in Orange County. The Los Angeles Times’ coverage of the orchestra’s growth has been unnecessarily focused on internal discussions and organizational failures rather than the objectives, accomplishments and future of the organization. We hope that the Los Angeles Times will join us in recognizing the value the community places on accomplishments, and on future objectives.
