Jean R. Stiegemeier has dropped his bid to acquire ABI American Businessphones Inc. in Irvine, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Stiegemeier, a director of the telephone vendor, had made an unsolicited offer to buy the company for $10 a share, or about $16.6 million. ABI rejected the offer last Friday. Founded in 1982, ABI earned $1.1 million last year on revenues of $27 million. ABI sells, installs and services business phone systems for small and mid-size companies in California and the Southwest.
