Man Pleads Innocent in Shooting of Black Youth
A white man accused of shooting and wounding a black teen-ager in a racially motivated attack in Playa del Rey pleaded innocent Friday to attempted murder.
Mark Shane Lashley, 27, also denied at his Municipal Court arraignment one count each of assault with a firearm, battery with serious bodily injury and exhibiting a deadly weapon and two counts of violating the victim’s civil rights.
Lashley, a research scientist employed by Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, was ordered by Judge Rosemary Shumsky to remain in custody in lieu of $500,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing July 21.
