Officials Seize $50,000 Worth of Illegal Fireworks
Police and fire officials, working with state fire marshal’s investigators, on Friday seized 150 cases of illegal fireworks in four Southern California counties, including Orange County, authorities said.
Investigators also seized about 80 grocery bags full of illegal fireworks, Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Patti Range said.
Authorities estimated the fireworks to be worth more than $50,000.
The seizures followed a monthlong investigation in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Range said eight felony arrests and 10 misdemeanor arrests were made in connection with the seizures.
Last year, fireworks caused 634 fires, 381 injuries and $1 million in damage, state officials said.
