An intruder who stalked women students at Point Loma Nazarene College was sentenced Friday to 12 years, 8 months for burglarizing dorm rooms.

Timothy O’Keefe, 32, of La Mesa, was given the term by San Diego Superior Court Judge Charles Hayes.

O’Keefe was convicted June 3 of six felony counts of burglary, 25 misdemeanor counts of making obscene phone calls to women students, prowling, possession of methamphetamine and battery upon a sleeping woman student.

Hayes imposed a six-month sentence for all the misdemeanor counts, but ordered it to run concurrently with the sentence on the burglaries.

Several students testified Friday about the alarm they felt when they learned that O’Keefe had entered their rooms, taken pictures of them, then called them to say he had been in their rooms.

The student who was assaulted testified during O’Keefe’s trial that she felt someone touching her at 3 a.m. and removing the blankets from her bed.

O’Keefe’s lawyer, Michael Butler, said his client has “a compulsion” that led him to commit the crimes.

“He doesn’t understand this compulsion. He doesn’t understand where this comes from,” said Butler, adding: “There’s no question Mr. O’Keefe needs some structure and some treatment.”

Hayes has set a hearing for Friday to determine where O’Keefe will be placed.

“He is a threat to every young woman in this area,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Steve Robinson said.

O’Keefe, who was convicted in 1984 of false imprisonment of a San Diego State University female student, was on probation in that crime when he committed the offenses at the Point Loma college.
