5 Firefighters Killed as Flaming Roof Falls

HACKENSACK, N.J. —
The burning roof of a car dealership collapsed onto firefighters Friday, killing five of them in a shower of fiery debris, authorities said.
The fire, which destroyed the building and contents of Hackensack Ford, apparently started shortly after 3 p.m. in the ceiling space above the rear service section of the building, said Fire Chief Anthony Aiellos. He said the roof collapsed as the firefighters were cutting a hole in the false ceiling in order to attack flames between the ceiling and the roof.
