Zero-Tolerance Raids by Police in Santa Ana

Share

In reading the story about Brooke Betz (“Zero Sympathy for One Young Driver,” June 21), whose car was impounded by the authorities during a zero-tolerance raid in Santa Ana, I was struck by his comment “I know my rights were violated.”

What about the rights of the decent, law-abiding people who live in neighborhoods where drug dealers wait on corners to peddle their poison to drive-up customers. What about the rights of the children who live where the drug pushers do their business; children who will lose the simple pleasure of walking down the sidewalk on a warm summer night, so people like Brooke Betz can drive down from the rolling hills of Yorba Linda and buy his pot while on the way to a party.

It’s the people who buy from these dealers that keep the drug pushers in business. Zero tolerance is here and hopefully, here to stay.

As for Mr. Betz, or anyone else, there is a lesson to be learned: buying drugs is illegal. If you break the law, you pay the price.
