All right, so Big Dave did go back on the air, shaking his sizable fist at the 4-month-long writers strike. But David Letterman told the Washington Post he doesn’t exactly feel great about having done so. “I actually feel like I’m not doing the right thing,” said Letterman, a member of the Writers Guild of America. “I owe a great deal to our writers and I feel like being back here without them is not the right way to behave. (But) with a show like this, you can’t take it off the air for a third of the year and expect everything to be great when you return.” Better working, though, than playing tennis with Johnny Carson, who smoked Letterman, 6-1. “I just couldn’t get over the fact that you look across the net and there’s Johnny Carson,” Letterman said. Sure, Dave.
